Directions:
Preheat oven to 150 deg C. Grease 20cm tin (bigger tin if increasing recipe)
Toast hazelnuts if raw in oven until lightly browned, then rub offf skins and chop.
Peel, core, and slice pears (should be 350g of slices).
Melt butter and add castor sugar. Break in eggs and mix. Add essence.
Sift in flour and BP and beat all together.
Add half chopped nuts to mixture.
Spread half mixture into tin. Cover with pears in an even layer.
Blob spoons of remaining mix over pears. Smooth out to cover.
Mix remaining nuts and 2 Tbsp brown sugar together and sprinkle over the top.
Bake around 90 minutes (start checking around 60 minutes).
